Friday: Spirit Day for everyone-Wear your Green and Gold!

Class Placements:
Please begin filling out placement cards for your students.  These can be found in the permanent files in the office.  Make sure you have one for each student.  We will work on class placements during the May 5th learning lab.

Congratulations!
We are so proud of  your accomplishments.  You are each so special, and Concord truly appreciates all you do for our school.

PTG Grants:
The Concord PTG wants to hear your wishes!  We have decided to extend the Teacher Grant deadline to Friday, April 15th.

Don’t have all the information on your item? PTG will research for you and find the best price. Just provide item description and use.
Have a print out or catalog wish item? Drop off in the basket located on the PTG cabinets with your list attached!

Learning Lab Updates:
Here are just some of the ideas shared at our learning labs this week when thinking about struggling students and those that need a little challenge.  Check it out:
  • See Saw to record reading for those students struggling with fluency.  Take a picture of the book and then students can record themselves reading the book and listen to their reading
  • Elkonin boxes to help struggling writers when they get to unknown words.  Here is a link to learn a little more about this tool.
  • Close reading strategies
  • Pen Pal-start a notebook with a struggling reader so you can send a quick message back and forth.
  • Touch and Tell conference with a struggling student daily before starting writing.  Have the student think about their story like a movie and tell it across pages.  What event will happen on each page?
  • Timer for students struggling with focus-Set the volume low on your iPad and create an alarm to go off every 5 min.  Tell them when the timer goes off, it should be a reminder so they can check themselves to see if they are on task.  If they aren’t, it can be a reminder to get focused.

Here are some short video clips to motivate your students as we prepare for testing:

In addition, here are some books that might be fun to do for a read aloud.  Let Marco or I know if you would like us to come in and read aloud to your class or give a motivational pep talk.
Hooray for Diffendoofer Day

In this  Chinese folktale, Ping learns a lesson about our circle of influence....things we can and cannot control.

After watching this short video with your students, I would encourage you to do the following activity.  Have students work together in groups or as whole class for the younger students and brainstorm the things that are in our circle of influence.  You might also want to try this activity with hula hoops as the circles.

A huge thank you to Beth and Bill for a wonderful 2nd grade night at the circus.   Check out these pictures.  The students and their families were so very excited to participate in this wonderful event.

In addition, a special thanks to Beth and Bill for their organization and effort in the Read, Right, and Run event held on Saturday.  This program challenges kids to read 26 books, right the community with 26 good deeds, and then run 26.2 miles over a 6 month period.  Check out some photos from the event.

Garden Work Day #2: Here  is the link to the sign up genius.  We plan to put the new beds together, haul dirt to the beds, and create the teaching and learning zone in the back of the garden.  We have shifts for 1.5 hours or 3 hours.  We would LOVE to have our DOC members volunteer and bring their drills to put the beds together.
