Weekly Update 2.26.17-3.4.17

It is hard to believe that we are almost finished with the 3rd quarter of school.    I am continually amazed at your willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure success for our students.  This is the time of year that we may need to pull out some new tricks for our struggling kiddos.  We are here for you to provide support for your students, brainstorm new strategies, or guide you to the right resources.  Don’t forget to lean on us!
Recess Update
As the weather gets nicer, please keep in mind that there are 2 scheduled recesses after the lunch recesses (after 1:35 p.m.).
Kindergarten: 2:10-2:30
1st grade: 2:35-2:55
If your class is in need of a break, please be sure to use the time on the playground that is not already being utilized.  In addition, feel free to use the Concord Mile to get a little activity in.  

Learning Labs on Wednesday, March 1st
We need to move learning labsto March 1st this week.  Please bring your Reading Strategies book and ELA priority standards to your PLC room during block.  We would like to invite all intervention services this month to attend the grade levels you service including SSD, ELL, and Reading Intervention.  Thanks!

MAP Testing Updates
For MAP grade levels - 2017 GLA Hot Links HERE. Please utilize the assessments tools, etc.  I would like to suggest that grades 3-5 do a practice math performance event.    We will be breaking into groups at our next staff meeting to start talking MAP details.

The Concord PTG will be hosting a community school board candidate forum on Thursday, March 2nd.  Please be sure to submit your RSVP if you plan on attending so we have enough seating.

Weekly Update 2.20.17

Friends-
I hope you enjoyed the weekend!  I feel like I could have slept outside it was so awesome.  Be sure to refocus your energy on what matters this week-being present and focused on our kiddos.  It is a great time to recharge during our 1st ever kindness week.  

Concord Kindness Week:
We will be celebrating empathy and kindness next week for our first ever Kindness Week.
Tuesday’s Theme: “Dreaming of Kindness”-Wear your pajamas.
Wednesday’s Theme: “Peace, Love, and Kindness Day”-Wear tie dye clothing.
Thursday’s Theme: “Ride the Kindness Wave”-Wear Hawaiian clothing.
Friday’s Theme: “Flyer Family Team Day”-Wear Concord t-shirts.
We will meet in our family teams and have a “2017 Concord Kindness Walk.”

Students in Mrs. Shaugnessy’s room have been working on genius hour projects.  Katy H. has decided to start a collection for a local hospital and is looking for donations for the following items:
Congrats to our 3rd grade box top winners!  They will get an extra recess for collecting the most box tops for our “Race to Recess” competition.

April 4th Election
Please enjoy this voting video created by Lev. B.   Concord will be hosting a Board Candidate Forum on Thursday, March 2nd.  Please use the signupgenius link to help us with attendance.  Each candidate will be given time to speak, and there will be a Q&A session.
A special thanks to our PE teachers for a wonderful Jump Rope for Heart.    Congratulations to Caroline Dull in Mrs. Joy’s room.She raised the most money for the JRFH campaign, $1225.  She even turned down all of the prizes so that the money could just all be donated!  the gym is being named after her for the 2017-18 school year.

A big thank you to Megan Wissel for creating the Concord Mile route.  Many students are enjoying using the route for exercise and a brain break throughout the day.

Mystery Readers-Inviting Brothers and Sisters to Share the Love

In Jean's room, big brothers and sisters are mystery readers.   They get to share a great book and surprise their sibling.  What a fun way to share the love of literature!

Oregon Trail

The students in Anne Gastreich's class have started an Oregon Trail game in social studies. Students are on different wagon company teams. They decided on their jobs and the supplies they will take on their journey. Who will get to Oregon first?

Make it Matter-Monday

Check out how 3rd graders in Ms. Tackes' class are starting their Monday.   Here is the message to students: "Good morning!  Please take a post it and create a goal for how you can spread kindness in the clasroom and in the school this week.  Place your post it under your name when you are finished."  What an easy way to encourage kindness!   #beawesomeconcord

Elementary and Middle School Boundary Change Update
On Feb. 8, the Boundary Committee met for the second time to narrow down map options and begin more detailed work establishing new attendance zones for elementary schools. The committee will continue work on elementary boundaries and begin discussion of middle school boundaries at its next meeting, on Feb. 22. Spring Picture Day:
Spring picture day will be Friday, February 17th.  Group pictures will begin at 1:30pm with the Exception of  Kindergarten Daisies.  Here is the link to the schedule.  Please send uniforms, sashes, vests, and t-shirts  for the following groups:
  • Boy Scouts: Tiger, Bear, Wolf, Webelo I, Webelo II
  • Girl Scouts: K Daisies, 1 Daisies. 2 Brownies. 3 Brownies, Juniors STEM Scouts

Random Reminders for Families:
Attendance Hotline: Please be sure to call the attendance hotline if your child is going to be absent.  It will save a great deal of time for Mrs. Musante in the morning from calling families.  The phone number is 314. 729.2409.
Drop Off time: Please remember that drop off time in the morning begins at 8:20 and concludes at 8:40.  We have had families dropping children off before supervision begins and students continue to arrive later each day.
Lunch Accounts: Please be sure to update payments to lunch accounts.  You can check in SIS to see how much is owed on your accounts.
Service Logs due April 1st: Just a reminder that all service logs are due April 1st for the Presidential Service Award.  Please be sure to send your logs with the total number of hours served.
