I hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful 3 day weekend! As we enter our first full week of testing, I want to thank you for all that you have done to prepare the students for these next few weeks. They are confident and ready because of your hard work. Remember to stay calm and focused; this is the message we want for our students as well.
MAP testing Schedule: Please see the tab for lunch and block switches.
As many of you have heard, we are so fortunate to be a part of the elementary Project Lead the Way Pilot here at Concord next year. The program, titled LAUNCH, empowers students to adopt a design-thinking mindset through compelling activities, projects, and problems that build upon each other and relate to the world around them. And as students engage in hands-on activities in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, they become creative, collaborative problem solvers ready to take on any challenge. Mindy Siefert, who is currently the high school librarian, will be our LAUNCH teacher, and this class will be part of the block rotation. Welcome Mindy!
4 Teaching Moves that Promotes a Growth Mindset in Readers: Reading can be a very fraught topic for parents, teachers and students. Strong reading skills are essential for accessing later curriculum, so teachers put a lot of emphasis on it early. But the pressure and angst of getting students reading on schedule can sap the joy out of an activity that many young children love. At its heart, reading is a way to access stories, which in turn make readers wonder about the world. In the race to get kids reading, it can be easy to treat reading like a procedure, instead of the complicated experience that it is.
