Empowering students through the heart, mind, and body:

Students are taking a mindful minute break before returning to the carpet for story.

Teacher conferring with a small group of students during Writer’s Workshop is a great opportunity that allows the teacher to meet with more students during the writing time.

After the writing mini-lesson, doing quick check-ins with students to have them share how they are applying the mini-lesson to their drafts is a great strategy to help your writers get started writing.

Having the students write their “One Word” on their name tags is great daily reminder of what to strive towards each day!

Students are LOVING their new supply carts in the art room.  These kiddos are highly engaged in designing their projects with paint and crayons.

Leader portraits!  Using the leader language everywhere is so important.

These 1st graders were enjoying movement and motion as they scrambled to get to the hula hoop when the music ended in PE class.

Flexible seating allows students to choose how they learn best.

Sunday Scoop 9.3.17-9.9.17

As we complete another wonderful week, I want you to help our students focus on the heart this week.  Watching the news and seeing the devastation in Texas, I believe we can use this tragic situation to help our students see that they can make a difference to make the world a better place.  Liz and I will be meeting with the leadership team and PTG board members on Tuesday to brainstorm on how we can support others in need.

 

PGP Work: Please schedule your initial PGP meeting with your evaluator for the year (listed in the drive). Meetings should occur by Friday, September 29th.  Prior to this meeting you should have completed the Initial PGP Form in TalentEd. You can either click Save and Submit prior or wait until after your meeting to submit. Please bring your laptop to this meeting so we can discuss your PGP goals. For your individual PGP indicator, you can choose from the 13 indicators listed in red on this document. *LTAs and PE Teaching Assistants must select an indicator.*  

For our building PGP indicator, the Professional Development committee met in June and selected indicator 3.2: Curriculum Implementation.  The teacher recognizes the importance of long-range planning and curriculum development.  The teacher develops, implements, and evaluates curriculum based upon student, district, and state standards data. Please reference the hyperlinked document as you are working to complete your building level PGP in TalentEd.

Student T-Shirts: We would like to order t-shirts for our Concord students for our assemblies and buddy day activities.  Please take a moment by the end of the day Wednesday to add t-shirt sizes to this document.  Please mark one of the following:

• YS-youth small
• YM-youth medium
• YL-youth large
• YXL-youth extra large
• AS-adult small
• AM-adult medium
• AL-adult large

Mandatory PD: All staff, classified and certified, are required to complete this training. An email from SafeSchools went out the first week of school. It came from Lindbergh R-VIII School. If you have not received an email with your mandatory PD modules from SafeSchools, please check your spam, promotions, social folders. If you still cannot locate the email, please contact Rachel Slunaker through email at rachelslunaker@lindberghschools.ws. All mandatory PD is required to be completed no later than September 30th.

A Message from Beth Johnston: The news@lindberghschools.ws email address is a great place for you and your staff to send any student or staff accomplishments, awards or recognitions that are not of a timely nature. We check this account periodically and always post these on the website and include them in the monthly Board of Education special recognitions.

Technology Support:  Doug is “OUR” tech dude. If you have any instructional technology needs, please feel free to reach out to him.  

PikMyKid Update: Parents have been creating their accounts over the past week.  This week is our trial for parents to get in and play with the app.  Effective as of Monday, September 11th, we will be using the app for the following:

Attendance Notification: If a student is going to be absent, the parent will use the app to mark the child absent and why.

Dismissal Changes: All dismissal changes will be through the app.  Any change of how a child is going home should be marked in the app.

External Dismissal Arrival: As parents come through the drop off line, they will announce their arrival.  

If you get any emails about the above items, please feel free to kindly reply asking the parents if they have the app and that you are just checking to make sure they are aware of our new procedures.  If anyone needs help, let them know they can call Debbie in the front office or the helpline.    In addition, we are going to put a 2 page document in your mailbox on how to login to the website.  Please take a moment this week to look at site and play around.  Your login is your Lindbergh email and the password will be on the sheet.  Additional information to come your way at the end of the week.

Sunday Scoop 8.27.17

Boy Scout presentations in classrooms will begin at 9:00 on August 30th.  These presentations will last around 5 minutes.

LEAP begins this week. Please see this updated roster.  You do not need to mark these students absent.  Students should wait on the benches outside the gym and will be sent to the buses first thing in the morning.

Regarding Attendance: PLEASE, if you get an email or phone call from a parent, we need you to share that information with Debbie before 9 a.m.  At that point, Patti Benwell will be calling home to determine why the student is out.  This will eliminate the need for Patti to call into your room.  In addition, if you receive any messages that your students will not be attending Flyers Club, please let Debbie know so Flyers Club is not looking for this student.

Lunch: Please have students who want to use their water bottle for their drink at lunch to carry it with them to playground for recess and set it along the wall.  This avoids the lunch baskets getting too heavy and too many students having to return to their classroom.

Bus Driver Day: Friday, September 1st is Bus Driver day.  Feel free to create cards or something special to celebrate the drivers.  We have 12 bus drivers this year.  

Hats Off to You:  We will be placing a card in your mailbox each week.  Please take a moment to recognize a student.  If you already have a system in your room, feel free to snap a picture and send it to us so we can come recognize them as well (no need to complete something twice).

• Babysitting will be available for $1 per elementary aged student.
• PikMyKid:  We will have handouts for you to give to parents and Liz and I will popping in to your class to explain the process of downloading the app and registering.  Please show parents this video as a part of your curriculum night.  It is less than 10 minutes and you can feel free to watch it here.

Emergency Red Backpacks:  We will be ordering the materials you need for your red backpacks.  In addition, we will be putting an emergency contact form in your mailbox so please add this to the red bag.

As you begin discussing the habits with your students, it might be helpful to organize your materials in their leadership binder.   Some ideas include class mission statements, goal setting, reflections, and habits:

This week I attended a session on how we can support our young writers.  I am challenging you to read this post and try it out this week.  Check out the blogpost here to learn how writers can use google docs to turn speech into text. This feature allows our struggling writers to easily get their thoughts into draft format.
